The Northamptonshire Local Music Awards were founded in January 2022 by local Event Producer and Radio Presenter, Tommy Gardner. Tommy has a strong knowledge of the local music scene and actively supported this via his weekly show on Revolution Radio titled “The Local Music Show” in addition to that, Tommy is the Festival Director for Northampton Music Festival.
Over the past few years, Tommy has put together a number of notable local music events which include Christmas at The Abbey (Delapre Abbey), Cynthia Spencer Rocks The Lockdown and more recently, One Voice The Album and Live Concert. Tommy is also the founder and producer of the annual Northamptonshire talent search, Northamptonshire’s Rising Star and also The Northamptonshire Variety Performance due to take place in the Autumn which planning is underway for.
The Northamptonshire Local Music Awards will showcase and celebrate the incredible music scene that we have, here in Northamptonshire. There will be several stages of this annual event:
We are delighted to announce that Dawn Wright has joined the Awards team to co-produce our 2024 Awards with Tommy Gardner.
Stage 1 – Nominations
During this stage, the people of Northamptonshire will be able to nominate an individual, group or venue that they feel deserves to be shortlisted into various categories. The categories featured in this year’s awards are:
- Song Of The Year
- Album/E.P/Mixtape Of The Year
- Music Video Of The Year
- Pop Artist Of The Year
- Rap/Grime/Drill/Hip Hop Artist Of The Year
- Indie/Rock/Alternative/Metal Artist Of The Year
- R&B/Afrobeats/Dancehall/Reggae Artist Of The Year
- Dance/Electronic/Soundsystem/D&B Artist Of The Year
- Acoustic/Country/Folk Artist Of The Year
- Community Choir Of The Year
- Cover Artist Of The Year
- Producer Of The Year
- Live Event or Initiative Of The Year
- Local Music Venue Of The Year
- Specialist Music Show or Podcast Of The Year
- Blues/Soul/Jazz Artist of The Year
- Songwriter Of The Year
- Young Artist Of The Year (Open to individuals and groups under the age of 18)
There will also be an additional award given on the night, Outstanding Contribution to Local Music. This award will not receive public nominations and will be decided solely by our panel.
Stage 2 – Shortlisting
Once nominations have closed, our panel will shortlist a number of nominees in each of our categories in preparation for public voting.
Stage 3 – Public Voting
The shortlist of nominees for each category will have been released on our website and social media channels. The people of Northamptonshire can vote for their favourite in each of the categories before the winners are revealed during our Awards night.
Stage 4 – The Awards Night
The Northamptonshire Local Music Awards 2024 will take place in the Autumn of 2024 in a Northampton venue. The night will see special guests take to the stage to reveal each of our winners in all categories. There will also be live musical performances from special guests. More information will be announced very soon.
